Growing Up

And when you’re fifteen, don’t forget to look before you fall

I’ve found time can heal most anything

And you just might find who you’re supposed to be

Didn’t know who I was supposed to be, at fifteen

I love Taylor Alison Swift. I love her songs. Even though she has changed her music direction from country to pop, I still love her. There’s this powerful message that always embodies in her songs. Just take a look at this meaningful song from her second album, the title is “Fifteen”.

The story for the song is basically like a letter Taylor wrote to her 15-year-old self. She said in the lyrics, “‘Cause when you’re fifteen, somebody tells you they love you, you gotta believe them”. This song tells a story about newly-made friendship and falling in and out of love.

However, I have a different understanding about this song. For me, this song teaches me that everyone grows up. Who I am now is definitely different than who I was when I was fifteen. At fifteen, I felt like falling in love, crushing on boys, going out with friends are the most ultimate thing to do in life. That’s not completely wrong. Those were in my mind as a fifteen-year-old girl who just starting her freshman year and already hating Physics and Biology.

I remember I once had a high-school sweetheart. We lasted for only a year. When we broke up, I felt like the world had came to an end. He meant the world for me. I didn’t realize back then that the more I grew up, I might have different hopes and dreams I wanted to strive. After a struggling moving on session, I finally made peace with myself and decided to pursue my dream, other than boys.

In conclusion, growing up is inevitable. We just need to embrace it so we won’t feel sorry for ourselves.

I remember watched this korean drama (it’s so freaking funny and very worth it) Reply 1997 about a highschool girl who was a huuuge fan (almost stalker) of an idol group back in year 1997. She was 18, and her idol was everything to her, their posters were her friends and their songs were her lovers. She was very obsessed, and in a narrating voice her current self said “back then we were 18, and while everyone thought silly of us but that was a very serious matter to us. back then we were 18…”
oooh, I feel the same feeling I got from that dramaaa!!!
and here I am, still kinda afraid of growing up…. >.< but I want to try my best and walking along with the timeee~~~
